| Psychophysiology. Translational Research. The goal of our research is to better understand the nature of affective psychopathologies (anxiety disorders, depression) from the perspective of neural and information-processing systems. To this end, we utilize psychophysiological measures to study emotion and cognition. We assume that a necessary first-step toward understanding emotional disorders is to better understand how emotional information is processed, and how it interacts with cognitive systems. Thus, the research ranges from basic work on emotions to applied work on how neural activity relates to psychopathology and its treatment. In terms of methodology, we have utilized event-related brain potentials (ERPs), measures of autonomic nervous system activity, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and functional magnetic resonance imaging to answer questions about the nature of emotion, cognition, and affective psychopathology. For more specific information, please have a look at the Publications and Research links for past and on-going projects, respectively. |
